Music Review: Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight
I am not a die-hard Linkin Park fan. I was in high school when their first album came out, and I remember that my friends and I were very amused by the song “One Step Closer,” especially the part where Chester Bennington would scream “shut up when I’m talking to you” over a raging guitar riff. Yeah, that was pretty cool. All the singles from that album were pretty good, in fact. I didn’t much listen to their second album at all, although that song “Numb” seemed decent (it morphed into a better beat for Jay-Z in the Linkin Park/Jay-Z mash up album). The singles from the second album seemed to indicate that Linkin Park had taken what was successful from the first, the nu-metal/rock/rap style, and perfected it. As I wasn’t really into that sound, I stopped paying attention to them. It was a breath of fresh air, then, to hear LP’s newest single, “What I’ve Done,” as it’s more of a straight up rock song. The album is too, as it turns out. It also turns out the change in sound takes Linkin Park out of the nu-metal/rock/rap scene and places them squarely into the decent, but ultimately generic, rock scene. Read on…
